BFI Trip - Fri 25 Nov

Trip is booked.

Please pay £10 on ParentPay.

Is free travel from Enf Chase and back - if you want to get off somewhere else on the way back, you'll have to use your own Oyster card when we return.

YouTube - sorted(ish)

Okay, after much appreciated help from our Googlers, we've decided to leave things as they are.

Our new YouTube email address (for logging in) is:  georgemedia9@gmail.com

However, we've noticed there are 2 channels attached to our account:

1 - poultenfosterscott

2 - ecs media studies

When you upload anything to our YouTube, make sure it's to the 1st one - the poultenfosterscott.  So when you log in, it should ALWAYS look like this (poultenfosterscott as the main channel):

It's not the end of the world if you don't, but it means I won't be able to add your vids to playlists etc - and it makes life difficult trying to find your vids over the 2 channels.

Lip-Syncing and Emailing Record Company

This week's tasks:

1. Evaluate audience feedback from your treatment pitch last week: create a separate blog label called 'Audience 'Feedback'.

Evaluate: what changes will you make in light of the feedback?

2. Contact the music producers for your song: write an email asking permission to use their song, print screen and upload onto your blog

Dear…

My name is…

I am studying… (explain the course)

Explain what this project involves

Request to use their song

You have no intent to sell your video

Assure won’t be copyright issues as it will solely be used for an educational purpose

please contact if any concerns at above email address

3. Lip-synch Practise. Take a camera and film all group members lip synching your song. Upload onto your blog&edit. Take a behind the scene photo of yourselves.

THE IMPORTANT BIT: evaluate what you have learned about lip synching from the practise.

What will you do / not do when filming for real?

Making a Mood Board

Decide on your song choice for your video

1) Upload the lyrics to at least two different song choices.

2) Evaluate the song choices - ie comment on why you think songs will be good choices and why you’re discarding ideas.

Write about WHY you have chosen your song (make links to Andrew Goodwin's theory eg more symbolism from the lyrics, better visual ideas)

3) Upload a mood board for your song and make comments on ideas: colours, representation/symbolism etc.

4) Print off the lyrics to your song and annotating with ideas for narratives / performance.

How to make a MOOD BOARD

Use PRIMARY and SECONDARY images of locations

•Use KEY WORDS in your comments: mise-en-scene, atmosphere, settings of music videos, links between visuals and lyrics, representation, genre, audience etc...

Costume, Fashion, Props, Instruments

Themes

Symbols and connotations

Lip-syncing Practice

Today, we're going to ALL try our hand at lip-syncing.  We'll each do a segment of a song, edit it together and voila!

This is to give you an idea of just how difficult it's going to be.

(Got to be a ballad of some kind... that we all know!)

How about...?

That sign-up site was on about today:

Genre Research Project - Launch on Mon 27th June

This is an ongoing project that will last for the whole of rollover.  I want you to work on this throughout the 4/5 weeks we have, and it must be completed BEFORE we break up for summer - Friday 22 July.

1. Decide which genre you’re going to produce a music video for and upload 3 (minimum) music videos within your genre under a ‘research and planning’ label

2. Conduct some research about your artists:

a)  Which record label does the artist/ band belong to? Is it an independent or major label?

b)  What was the name of their last album?

c)  Do you think they are designed to have mass appeal (are they pop) or more elite, underground  fans?

3. Create montage of images for genre conventions. Upload pics of hand drawn spider diagrams  or prezis for artists in your chosen genre. Comment on how they represent themselves and how this may appeal to their target audience.

Ideas to include

Typically narrative or performance videos?

Mise-en-scene: iconography, props, costume style, high or low key lighting, locations: urban or rural, set design, colour pallet?

Cinematography: close up shots or wide shots, special effects

Message of video, generic types: archetypal gender roles etc.
